We’re excited to catch up with 2019 Baillie Gifford Prize winner Hallie Rubenhold and 2019 chair of judges Stig Abell in episode 5 of Read Smart.

Hallie won with The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper and continues to work her busy schedule through lockdown; Stig is the host of the new Times Radio’s breakfast programme. Host Razia Iqbal invites our guests to cast their minds back to the 2019 winner ceremony and finds out what both Hallie and Stig have been up to since last year’s announcement.

The conversation continues with Hallie and Stig discussing what they’ve been working on through lockdown and the pandemic has impacted their work.

Finally, they explore the documentation of epidemics and pandemics throughout history and how art in the future may respond to this period.
