The 2021 Ballie Gifford Prize Winner: Patrick Radden Keefe

 

Patrick Radden Keefe was declared the winner of The Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction 2021 on Tuesday 16th November.

Mr. Keefe was awarded £50,000 for Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty, a gripping and revelatory story of rivalry, deceit, and power involving multiple generations of the Sackler family.  The judges commended Mr. Keefe’s writing for its exhaustive research and skillful writing with Sunday Times literary editor Andrew Holgate declaring, “This is journalism as outstanding literature.”
