2019 Blavatnik Regional Award Finalist featured in Scientific American

2019 Blavatnik Regional Award Finalist, Dr. Derya Akkaynak, is featured in Scientific American‘s December 2019 issue for creating an algorithm that counteracts the distortion of underwater images. Dr. Akkaynak developed Sea-thru to correct the bland blue-green haze of images that are caused by the absorption and scattering of light in the water. The reconstruction of lost colors and contrast in underwater photographic imagery is poised to advance oceanographic research. Read the full story here.
