The Baillie Gifford Prize Podcast – Episode 3

In the third episode of this series, host Razia Iqbal meets up with authors Helen Macdonald (H is for Hawk, 2014) and Philip Hoare (Leviathan or The Whale, 2009) to discuss their prize-winning books.

With Razia they look at how the prize changed their lives and the challenges they faced when writing about the animal-human connection.  They also read from their books and look at how writing the book transformed them.

Razia then meets with Tom Tivnan, managing editor at The Bookseller to find out how non-fiction is performing in bookshops and the impact that winning a prize can have on an author’s career.

The eagerly awaited longlist will be announced on 10 September with the shortlist following on 22 October. The 21st winner of the prize will be announced on 19 November.
