Launched in 2023, the Brown University Blavatnik Family Graduate Fellowship in Biology and Medicine is awarded to advanced doctoral students in the Division of Biology and Medicine. The Fellowship supports eight outstanding students with the potential to contribute significant advancements across the clinical and basic life sciences. The fellows receive tuition, health insurance, health fees, and other expenses, in addition to a $7,500 student research fund.

University of Cambridge
Since 2014, the Foundation has funded Blavatnik Israel Fellowships for up to four post-doctoral fellows from top Israeli universities to study for two years, in the fields of chemistry, physics, and biotechnology. Significant support has also been provided to Cambridge Business School.

The Foundation has provided $10 million to establish the Blavatnik Fund for Engineering Innovations in Health at The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University to support doctoral students working at the intersection of engineering and health, promote early-stage research across disciplines, and accelerate the translation of research from the lab to the marketplace by providing seed funding for interdisciplinary and translational research projects. The Blavatnik Acceleration Funds support the transition of early-stage ideas and later-stage research to the marketplace.

In 2018, the Foundation donated $200 million to Harvard Medical School, the largest gift in the school’s history, for biomedical research. In addition, $60 million has been provided to create the Blavatnik Biomedical Accelerator to expedite scientific discoveries, supporting projects in cancer research and regenerative medicine, among many others. The Blavatnik Fellowship at Harvard Business School promotes life science entrepreneurship and helps to commercialize new beneficial therapies.

The Foundation has provided numerous grants to Dr. Evgeny Nudler in NYU’s School of Medicine to further his research into neurogenerative diseases, how to make cancer cells more responsive to chemotherapy, and the aging process.

In 2018, the Blavatnik Family Fellowship in Biomedical Research was established to support bioscience graduate students at the University of Pennsylvania. The $2 million, four-year fellowship provides critical financial support for five select PhD students enrolled in the Penn Biomedical Graduate Studies program and who are designated as Blavatnik Fellows.

The Blavatnik Family Fellowship Fund was established at Stanford University School of Medicine in 2018 to provide scholarships and research stipends for PhD students enrolled in the Stanford Biosciences program. The $12 million grant supports five Blavatnik Fellows a year over the ten-year life of the Fund.

The Initiative established the Blavatnik Center for Drug Discovery, the Blavatnik President’s Faculty Recruitment Discretionary Fund to recruit talented young researchers in priority areas, and the Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center. In addition, the Blavatnik School of Computer Science and its Research Fund focus on impactful computer science research and supports advanced-degree research students.

Separate grants have funded immunobiology research into inflammation, chronic disease, and biological maintenance mechanisms, including studies on aging and sleep's effects on health.
