You might not have heard about Professor Nick Casewell or his team based at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). However, their industry-leading work is helping tackle a global issue. Nick is a world-leading expert in snakebite and snake venom biology. Their research is helping to improve treatments for some of the world’s poorest communities. Nick is a finalist in the Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists in the United Kingdom. When asked how he felt when he found out about his nomination, Nick said: “I was very surprised but obviously very grateful for the recognition, not for me personally but for the work of the team at LSTM and people across the world who have contributed to our missions. Snake bites are a neglected topic. It doesn’t have global attention, so to be recognised is a really satisfying thing for LSTM.”
