Kenwood’s General Manager Gives Update on Summer Events

It’s been a really exciting couple of months at Kenwood, with the opening of Heiress: Sargent’s American Portraits. We’ve had some wonderful feedback on the exhibition, and we hope that through the work of John Singer Sargent, we have successfully shed light on the contributions the women once dubbed ‘dollar princesses’ made to politics, the arts and society, and have shared their stories with a wider audience. A huge thank you to all who have supported the exhibition including The Friends of the Iveagh Bequest, Kenwood, the American Friends of English Heritage, the Deborah Loeb Brice Foundation, Weston Loan Programme with Art Fund and the London Historic Houses Museum Trust, the Blavatnik Family Foundation Rockefeller Capital Management, Gregory and Melissa Fleming, LK. Barnes, Mark King, the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation, The Sargent Circle and other generous supporters. If you have yet to see it, Heiress is running until October 5.

Get an Early Peek at the New Ken Burns Documentary About the American Revolution

Ken Burns’s latest documentary series, “The American Revolution,” doesn’t start airing for another five months. It debuts on PBS Nov. 16. Burns produced and directed the documentary with Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt. They’ve variously collaborated with Burns on several previous projects, including “Benjamin Franklin,” “The US and the Holocaust” (both 2022), and “The Vietnam War” (2017). Two snippets from the documentary are now available for viewing online. The first clip arrived in April, tied to the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The new one was released this week, for the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill.

V&A East Storehouse is a Genuinely Radical New Museum

At the new V&A East Storehouse, storage takes center stage. This dynamic outpost brings the museum’s vast collections—250,000 objects, 350,000 books, and nearly 1,000 archives—into public view like never before. Far from the traditional museum experience, visitors can peer into active conservation labs, watch objects being prepared for display or loan, and even pre-order items from the archive for viewing. It’s a behind-the-scenes experience—by design. Opening soon within the Storehouse: the David Bowie Collection, a landmark acquisition made possible by the Blavatnik Family Foundation and Warner Music Group.

Design Museum by Day, Dance Club by Night

Design Museum’s upcoming exhibition explores how London's Blitz nightclub shaped ‘80s club culture, and launched the careers of Boy George, milliner Stephen Jones and others. The Design Museum is celebrating all things Blitz and glamour with its upcoming exhibition, “Blitz: The Club That Shaped the 80s.” Celebrating how London’s Blitz nightclub influenced ‘80s club culture show will run from Sept. 20 to March 29. “It’s remarkable that so much of 1980s pop culture can be traced back to the Blitz scene. That the club night only ran for little over a year, but shaped a whole decade is really astonishing,” said Danielle Thom, the exhibition’s curator. The exhibition is supported by the Blavatnik Family Foundation.

Backed by The Zone of Interest funder Access, the doc, which was made by Two Rivers Media, follows Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, who, along with other victims of Auschwitz, played and created music amid the terrors of the Holocaust. It reveals how despite living in the most brutal and dehumanizing of situations, prisoners were secretly composing music whilst in the camps. Co-EPs Emily Blavatnik and Danny Cohen added: “Preserving the memories, stories and truths of the Holocaust is critically important. It’s something that the Blavatnik Family and Access Industries are profoundly committed to.
